Female Hair Loss

Causes Of Female Pattern Hair Loss

Losing hair is far more common in men, but it does in fact affect more women than you may realise, tens of thousands of women worldwide suffer from female pattern baldness.

The problem does vary from male baldness, while men usually experience vertex balding (receding front hairline).Women experience what is called ‘Diffused thinning’ that normally starts at the crown or the top of the head.

Female pattern baldness can start around the age of 30, occasionally it could begin earlier, but generally it is women aged 40 and beyond especially as they approach menopause who generally experience the problem.

Experts suggest that something surrounding 50% of women aged 50 years old and over will experience hair loss of some degree. Although Female pattern baldness is the most common, another condition is called Telogen Effluvium.

Female pattern baldness differs from the male problem, in that it is more a thinning of the hair than total loss in one particular area ; To simplify, two hairs grow in areas where there should be five.

Hairloss can also be caused during times of bodily changes such as pregnancy, and if taking certain medications, or at times of increased stress.

Causes Of Female Hairloss

DHT

Female hair loss can (like male hair) loss be attributed to increased level of a natural compound called Dihydrotestosterone (aka DHT), a derivative of testosterone that inhibits the natural function of the follicles, reducing hair production, leading to weaker, thinner hair, in men especially the follicles often cease hair growth completely leading to bald patches.

Hormones And Genetics

Genetics can play a part, the general rule of thumb is that if your parents or grandparents suffered from hairloss, there is every chance that you will follow suit.

Hormones will play their part too, particularly during pregnancy, but the effect is usually temporary, stopping the birth control pill can also have similar effects.

Treatment Of Female Hairloss

Generally reducing the increased levels of DHT can stop the hair loss and in many cases can actually encourage the follicles to commence full hair production once again, there are a number of natural based treatments that work to control DHT and boost hair growth.

One such product is Harvokse, developed in Norway by respected team of tricologists, it is a two part system specifically formulated to reverse both male and female pattern baldness quickly and efficiently without resorting to potentially harmful chemical based ingredients that can cause scalp irritation and dryness.
